The Basics

iLok is a copy protection method used by many of our brands.

It has 3 types of activations, iLok USB, iLok Machine, and iLok Cloud.

Different brands/products will offer different iLok methods. iLok USB is always an option, but the availability of iLok Cloud and iLok Machine methods is at the discretion of the software developer.

iLok Account

For all iLok protected products, you will need an iLok account. You can create one for free here: ilok.com/#!registration

iLok License Manager

To manage your iLok licenses, there is a dedicated app called iLok License Manager. This app is used to register, activate, and move your licenses between locations.

iLok USB Key

iLok USB

This activation is stored on an iLok 2 or 3 USB key.

It is the best option for portability, if you frequently move between multiple machines, and offline use.

iLok Machine ID

Machine ID

This activation is stored locally on your computer.

While this is a convenient way to work offline, and does not require the additional cost of an iLok USB, there is the risk of a license being lost in the case of a drive failure.

This option also requires extra care when you upgrade to a new computer, the license(s) must be deactivated on your old machine first to ensure you do not lose them.

iLok Cloud

iLok Cloud

This activation is based online, and requires a "cloud session" using the iLok License Manager.

It requires an active internet connection for the entire time you use the plugin(s).

The Shakuhachi Flute was originally introduced from China into Japan in the 8th century and underwent a resurgence in the early Edo Period.

The shakuhachi is traditionally made of bamboo, but versions now exist in ABS and hardwoods.

It was used by the monks of the Fuke school of Zen Buddhism in the practice of suizen.

It was also a favorite of film composer James Horner and used on countless of his film scores.

Ethnic Accent

Let it be known that this library is NOT full of loads of legato articulations, but sets out to be more of an ethnic accent for your game and film scores.

This library was recorded by utilizing a couple of the most amazing Shakuhachi players we could find, Jon Johnston and Jonathan McCollum.

The end result from "the two jons" is a Kontakt instrument which will add cinematic ethno flare to just about any track.

Phrases & Multisamples

Stealth Wind sets out to capture that "James Horner" cinematic shakuhachi vibe through the use of carefully selected recorded phrases (both ethnic and cinematic) along with some craftily sampled multi-sampled staccatos and sustains.

While the main vibe of the sound is centered around stealth and sneaking ninjas, there are also quite a few ethnic phrases and motifs which are on the lighter and more traditional side of things.

Outside of the two separate cinematic phrase patches and two ethnic patches, there are also various staccato patches, a handful of low "Elephant Calls" which definitely ooze cinematic goodness, and "Enigma Calls" which, as the name suggests, stem from various re-recordings and takes of a certain Shakuhachi sample used extensively by the artist Enigma.

Taiko Drum Patch

We even included a multisampled Taiko patch which serves as a nice bonus to tie everything together.
